Beyond the Basics is a group of distance-learning courses on specific topics related to the Bahá’í Faith. They are divided into various branches or areas: the writings of Bahá'u'lláh, `Abdu'l-Bahá, and Shoghi Effendi; Bahá'í teachings; Bahá'í history; the Bahá'í Faith and world religions. Nearly forty courses have been created; they repeat every 18 to 48 months, depending on demand. One does not have to take any of the "Basics" courses to take "Beyond the Basics" courses. Since they are distance-learning courses, no classroom attendance is required. Many of the courses represent a further development of topics covered in the Ruhi or Fundamental Verities programs; for example, courses on the lives and ministries of the Báb and Bahá'u'lláh expand on summaries of those subjects found in Ruhi Book 4. Consequently Wilmette Institute distance-learning courses may be very useful to some local study circles wishing to continue their learning in greater depth.
