2003 Summer Session Shortened

Illinois

In order to make participation at the Wilmette Institute's summer session of the Spiritual Foundations for a Global Civilization program more convenient and less costly the Wilmette Institute Board has decided to shorten the 2003 summer session to one week.

The 2003 summer program focuses on the theme of “An Ever-Advancing Civilization.” It will look at the Bahá'í teachings for regenerating civilization and creating the kingdom of God on Earth, especially such subjects as the establishment of world peace, the oneness of humanity, global prosperity, and creation of a world administrative system. Other global issues, such as the environment and the harmony of science and religion, will be considered as well. In short, the program will be a perfect opportunity for anyone interested in studying the Bahá'í social teachings in depth.

The session will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 2. Students should plan to arrive that morning or the evening before. The session will end at 12 noon on Sunday, August 10, so that students can fly home after 3 p.m. that afternoon. Tuition will cost $450. Lodging, which is still being finalized, will probably be $120, and meals (taken at local restaurants or at the cafeteria of National-Louis University) will be about $100.

The application process for the Spiritual Foundations program has also been simplified. A prospective student need only complete a registration form and write a short (100-200 word) statement why he or she wishes to attend the program. A $150 deposit in advance is needed. There is no requirement for someone to commit to more than one year. A certificate of attendance will be issued at the end of the session, and for those who complete reading assignments and a written project, a certificate of completion will be issued at a later date.
